JUNIOR COMD (JC) WG
General
1.1. Location
The first JC Course was conducted at The Inf School, Mhow (Sep–Dec 1947) and it continued there till JC-71 (Dec 1970).
Thereafter, JC Wing was shifted to the then newly established College of Combat, Mhow at its present location in Apr 1971.
The first course at the new location was again numbered as JC-1.
1.2. Duration (Historical)
The duration of the JC Course varied between 8–11 weeks till JC-152 and was increased to 12 weeks w.e.f. JC-153 to JC-166.
The course duration was reduced to 10 weeks for JC-167 to JC-169 (to cater for COVID backlog).
However, w.e.f. JC-170, the course duration has been brought back to 12 weeks.
1.3. Strength & Structure
Earlier JC Wing had four Divs and the strength of the course was fixed at 325, which increased to 400 in 1995.
From 2012 onwards, the course strength was increased to 425 to include 25 offrs from FFCs.
The strength increased to 500 in 2013 and further to 584 in 2017, when two new Divs (E & F Divs) were added.
The strength of the JC Course has now stabilised to 584 to include offrs of Army, IAF, CAPF and FFCs.
2. Aim
To train Sub-unit Cdrs in all ops of war incl sub-conv ops, in an integrated envt.
3. Duration (Current)
JC Wing conducts three 12-week JC Courses per year, each with a student strength of about 584 offrs.
4. Curriculum
The curriculum covers subjects of Tac and Adm at Sub-Unit level.
It covers all Ops of War to incl Mtn W (incl LC/LAC), emp of Sp Arms, Mech W, Desert W, FIBUA, integrated emp of Mech & Inf in HAA, Engr aspects, Leadership, CI/CT Ops, Lecs on Law and Guest Lecs on varied topics by Subject Matter Experts.
5. Conduct
In a course, there are two tutorials, of six and five weeks respectively.
Trg is imparted through TDs, Syn Discussions, SMDs, BBEs, Outdoor Two-sided Exs and Lecs by experts.
There are facilities for e-Learning in the living rooms of each student offr.
AEs and Quiz Tests are conducted at the end of each tutorial.
6. Focus Areas
The JC Course is the foundational and compulsory course for all offrs of the IA, in which the faculty plays a very intimate role.
The course focuses on hands-on trg at sub-unit level to incl:
