Commandant Army War College

Lt Gen Harjeet Singh Sahi was commissioned into the RAJPUT Regiment in December 1988. In an illustrious career spanning more than 36 years, the General Officer has had extensive operational experience in the Northern, Western and Eastern Theatres, across varied terrain and operational environments.

He has served in High Altitude Areas including Siachen Glacier, Deserts, Jammu & Kashmir, and the North East. His command assignments in J&K include the command of his Battalion and Brigade along the Line of Control, and a Counter Insurgency Force in North Kashmir, as a Maj Gen.

The General Officer has the unique distinction of commanding the largest Corps of the Indian Army, with an area of responsibility along the Northern Borders, Indo-Myanmar Border, and six States in the hinterland of the North East. As the Corps Commander, he gave major impetus to infrastructure development, capability enhancement and technology infusion, ensuring the formation remained prepared for future challenges. In the hinterland, he ensured stability of the situation, including in Manipur, which had witnessed unprecedented ethnic conflict since May 2023.

Lt Gen Sahi took over as the Commandant of the Army War College, Mhow in August 2024. As the premier training institution of the Indian Army, AWC imparts professional military knowledge to more than 3,000 officers each year—from the rank of Major to Colonel—at tactical and strategic levels, preparing them to handle command and staff appointments in any operational environment, across all domains.

Besides challenging command assignments, the General Officer has held several important staff appointments at all levels, including Brigadier General Staff of an Operational Corps, Additional Director General of Military Operations, and Director General Information Warfare at the Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army). He has also represented the Indian Army as a Military Observer in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission (MONUSCO
